May 23 1975 – March 10, 2010
Λάμπρος Φούντας
Lambros Foundas was killed in a gunfight with police in Daphne, Athens on March 10, 2010 while attempting expropriation of a car for his anarchist organization, Revolutionary Struggle.
He was politically involved since his high school years; Lambros was one of the thousands of young people not affiliated with any political party who took part in the student occupations, demonstrations and clashes before and following the January 1991 murder of high school math teacher Nikos Temponeras. Lambros was also among the 500 arrested when police invaded the 1995 occupation of Athens Polytechnic. He would later join the anarchist group Μαύρο Αγαθη (Black Thorn), publisher of the magazine Δρόμοι της Οργής (Streets of Rage). He was active and participated in marches, rallies, social conflicts, demonstrations, flyer-posting, discussions and social events.
The following is a translation of a poster that was put up following Lambros’ murder:
IN LIFE HE WAS LIGHTNING
Charged with the genuine struggle for choices, for the future, for his comrades, for the struggle.
With sharp thoughts formed by the the matter of personal work and of the movement.
With decisive actions, unwavering and made of fire.
You showed with your very life that the way of the revolutionary is to say few and well-balanced words,
to act with wildness and dedication. Rabid and Conscious.
In your remembering, fists tighten up…tears become weapons.
The old Cause becomes ever more urgent.
AND IN DEATH HE WAS A WOLF.
One breath was enough, one decision and steeled will.
With a gun in your hand and freedom in your gaze,
you chased your dreams to the very end.
You left the way you lived.
Wildly and freely.
REVOLUTIONARIES ARE NOT LOST WHEN THEY DIE
They ride a star and trace tracks of freedom into infinity.
They paint with their blood that which each of us is dreaming of but afraid to dare.
They are fireflies in the darkness of inertia.
They are the Fire, the struggle, the street.
Let us all catch fire from their fire…
Not to forget – to act.
HONOUR TO THE ANARCHIST LAMBROS FOUNDAS
The struggle continues
Good journey comrade.
